Per Deadline, a new version of Prison Break has been handed a pilot order at Hulu courtesy of Elgin James, the man behind Mayans M.C. and The Outlaws. Plot details are being kept locked up as tight as the would-be prisoners, but the new take will reportedly be set in the same universe with a new story and cast. That means that fans of Wentworth Miller’s Michael Scofield and Dominic Purcell’s Lincoln Burrows will have to get attached to a new group of people trying to escape their prison walls.
It was previously announced that 20th Television was interested in setting up a new Prison Break when the company was looking into some of its legacy titles to resurrect a year ago. It should be noted that this is a pilot order and not a series pickup, so Hulu will have to see what the finished pilot looks like before officially committing to bringing this new iteration of the show. James will be producing through his Sierra Drive banner and will be joined by four executive producers from the original series, which include Dawn Olmstead, Paul Scheuring, Marty Adelstein, and Neal Mortiz. Olmstead, in particular, has been working closely with James to develop the project.
‘Prison Break’ Was a Big Hit For Fox During Its Original Run
Created by Paul Scheuring for Fox, Prison Break ran for five seasons and 90 episodes during its original run. The series follows brothers Lincoln Burrows (Purcell) and Michael Scofield (Miller), with the former being sentenced to death for a crime he didn’t commit. In a true sign of brotherly love, Michael hatches a plan to break Lincoln out of prison so he can clear his name, which also involves him being incarcerated in the same prison so he can execute his plan.

Ranking the 10 Most Interesting Characters on Prison Break
Prison Break has many great characters. However, the following stand out because of their arcs and mannerisms.
Prison Break emerged during a period of serialized TV series capturing solid ratings on various networks, with Lost and Fox’s own 24 utilizing the format to great effect. The series became a ratings winner for the network, averaging 9.2 million viewers during its first season. Ratings for the show were relatively steady during Seasons 1-3, but as the series began to stretch out its premise and maybe overstay its welcome, they began to slip, with the final season averaging 4 million viewers.
The series became a marketing hit as well, spawning a video game, a spin-off series for mobile phones called Prison Break: Proof of Innocence, an official magazine, and other tie-in content. Signs that a new series or reboot would be successful came to be when Prison Break saw a big resurgence on streaming when it was brought back to Netflix after a two-year absence, totaling nearly 200 million hours watched, according to Nielsen. All five seasons are also available on Hulu.
