The second day of the Shootout on the Prairie had great games between several teams. The main matchup was between Class A teams that were ranked in the top three of preseason rankings.
South Prairie-Max 50, Thompson 40
The Royals battled point for point in a defensive effort with the Tommies for the first five minutes of their early season progress and then began to chip away at the contest. By the end of the first quarter of play, South Prairie-Max led 13-8 and led by as much as 26-11 in the second quarter.
South-Prairie-Max (4-0) took a 30-16 led into halftime that progressed to a solid ten point win over Thompson (1-1) in the first week of the 2024-2025 season.
Bottineau 50, Dickinson Trinity 41
Both the Stars and the Titans received votes in the preseason rankings and their battle at the Shootout on the Prairie lived up to the competitive nature of both teams. The nine point win moved Bottineau (1-1) into the win column after dropping game one on Friday to Thompson.
Trinity (1-1) beat Westhope-Newburg on day one before falling to the Stars on Saturday.
Kenmare-Bowbells 49, Bishop Ryan 30
The Lady Honkers are on a two game win streak after they lost their season opening game to South Prairie-Max. Friday Kenmare-Bowbells beat May-Port-CG and followed that with a win on Saturday over Bishop Ryan.
The preseason ranking of third in Class B has been put to the test with Class A competition. The Honkers will tackle Parshall this week at home on December 12.
Hatton-Northwood 69, Velva 40
The Thunder started their season with a win over Bishop Ryan at the Shootout on the Prairie and followed that up with another win at the same event over the Velva Aggies.
Velva will travel to local rival Harvey-Wells County on December 12 followed by a trip to Kenmare-Bowbells on December 14 this week.
Hatton-Northwood will travel to Cavalier on December 12 followed by a trip to Park River-FL on December 13.
Wahpeton 53, Stanley 32
The preseason polls have Wahpeton at fifth and they worked to earn that ranking after the top ranked Royals beat them on Friday. The Huskies followed that loss with a win on Saturday over the Blue Jays.
Stanley won their first two games of the season with a win at home over Killdeer and the win over Velva on Friday at the Shootout before the loss on Saturday.
Wahpeton hosts Kindred today and travels to Milbank on December 12 and host Thompson on December 14.
May-Port-CG 66, Westhope-Newburg 34
The Lady Sioux have played three games to start the 2024-2025 season and scored 34 points in each of those games. In game one, Powers Lake-Burke Central scored 38, Dickinson Trinity scored 57 on Friday on day one of the Shootout on the Prairie and
The Patriots lost their opening game of the 2024-2025 season to Kenmare-Bowbells on day one of the Shootout and rebounded to take the game over the Lady Sioux on Saturday.
Westhope-Newburg will host Bishop Ryan on December 17 and travel to TGU on December 19 while May-Port-CG will host Midway-Minto on December 12 and travel to Thompson on December 16.
