Stephen King’s short story Autopsy Room Four, is set to get a feature film adaptation thanks to director Ranjeet S. Marwa and veteran Hollywood executive Jon Levin.
This is an intense and chilling story that centers on Howard Cottrell, a man who wakes up paralyzed and unable to communicate, only to find himself on an autopsy table.
He is mistaken for being dead after a snake bite leaves him in a catatonic state, and Howard endures the horror of being fully aware as medical examiners prepare to begin their dissection. He struggles internally to find a way to signal that he is still alive.
The story was first published in King’s limited-edition collection Six Stories in 1997 and appeared in the anthology Robert Bloch’s Psychos later in the same year. In 2002, it was collected in King’s collection Everything’s Eventual.
This is going to make for a great movie, which is currently in development.
